The Boys from Fifth and Sixth Class were lucky enough to be invited to the Allianz Participation Blitz in Bray Emmets on Thusday 12th October. Scoil Chulann, St. Cronans, Greystones Educate Together, St Laurences and our school were the participating schools. We had great fun and managed to win a couple of matches. Well done to all those who participated and thank you to the parents who supported the children and provided the transport for the children
We had a zoom call with Juan Miro on Monday 9th October. Juan Miro works with the European Space Agency. It was so interesting to learn about the I.S.S., the International Space Station, how it works, who works there and what its job is. He also talked about his work. He is involved in designing the rockets that brought the different parts of the Space Station up into Space and for bringing the astronauts up to space. He also talked about the selection process for an astronaut and the type of work they have to do before they go to space. Lucky us.
Our school were invited to participate in the Allianz Camogie participation blitz in Bray Emmets. We played against Scoil Chualann, Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath, Greystones Educate Together, St. Laurence’s, St. Brigid’s, Gaelscoil Uí Chéadaigh and St. Joseph’s. We enjoyed the experience of getting involved and practicing our skills. Well done 5th and 6th Class Girls. Also thank you to the parents who supported the children by dropping and collecting them from the Blitz.
The Fifth Class children participated in a Talent Show. The children showed such dedication and excitement in preparing for the show. There was a wide variety of talents displayed from football and basketball, dance and baton, human bowling, magic tricks, live drawing skills, singing and instrument playing and everything inbetween! They were amazing
We have had great success growing in our school garden this year. We could not have done it without the help of Joe and Dennis. We sold some of our home grown produce as a fundraiser to continue supporting our garden and Ms Gleeson's 5th Class made gooseberry jam with the gooseberries. We are so lucky to have such a fabulous space to grow so many fruits and vegetables.
Our yearly Mary Bailey basketball tournament is currently underway.
Sixth Class took part in play off semi finals and finals and had a great time participating in the competition . The finals were very exciting and enjoyed by the whole school.
This years winning teams were The Teletubbies and the Ghandis Minions! Well done to all that participated!
We celebrated wonderful 40 years of Mr O Brien in our school. He has brought so much kindness and compassion to our students. His love of Gaelic Games has had such a positive impact on our school along with his passion for exploring nature, gardening and using the environment and the children’s interests to support their learning. Thank you for everything you have done for our school
Today was Tommy's last day with us. Tommy is an amazing man who is well loved and respected by every member of our school community. He has taught all the children GAA skills throughout the year and they have come on so much throughout the year. Thanks so much for all your hard work Tommy.
We also say a fond farewell to Sofiia, our teacher from Ukraine. Sofiia has been such a wonderful support to the students who arrived this year from Ukraine and to the class teachers working with these students. We were so lucky to have you this year and we wish you well on your next adventure.
We were lucky enough for Wobble Circus to come to our school and visit 1st Class and 5th Class. The children got to explore with diablos, hat tricks, juggling, spinning plates, hoola hoops, feather wands and even got to go on the tightrope. We really enjoyed getting our creative juices flowing in a whole new way
The children took part in our sports day on Friday 9th June. There were lots of races, activities and games taking place. Both children and staff had a fun filled day!
Bhí spórt agus spraoi ag gach duine sa scoil don Seachtain na Gaeilge!
Everyone in the school had great fun for Seactain na Gaeilge 2023 or should we say Coicís na Gaeilge as it really goes on for two weeks now. We have all been so busy and the children, as always made a huge effort to speak as Gaeilge throughout the school days. We had a huge raifil on the last day. Children earned as many ticéid as they could by speaking Gaeilge each day and the tickets all went into a big box for the raifil.
Each class took part in a Ceilí and once again were paired up with another class. The younger and older children mixed so well together.
But apart from all of these organised events, each teacher and class did lots of their own activities to embrace our Irish culture, be it amhráin, rainn, dánta nó damhsaí.
Have a look at some of the things that have been going on below.
To top it all off, we had a Lá Glas last Thursday 16ú Márta and a whoe school assembly where children performed Irish dancing, tin whistle, songs and even The Haca Gaelach!
Prizes were awarded from the raifil and one child in each class was given an award for Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine. It was a great day and some children even commented it was their favourite day of the year in St Fergal’s and many of the teachers would agree!
We have so many great events in St Fergal’s throughout the year but this is the day that we really get to celebrate our rich culture and heritage and everyone in the school really embraces it each year.
We are already looking forward to Seachtain na Gaeilge 2024!
We had a great time for World Book Day this year. Our Book Fair was back for the first time since Covid so everyone was really delighted about that and lots of children bought new books to read.
We held an art competition. Each child was asked to design a book cover and the winning child from each class got to chooses a book for free.
We also paired a junior and senior class together for paired reading and the children really enjoyed the experience. It is such a joy to see the older children interacting with the younger ones.
For the first time ever St Fergal’s School took part in an amazing cross border event called Peace Proms. The three 5th classes have been learning lots of songs and actions since September, to take part in a choir with hundreds of other schools. They went along to the RDS on Saturday 4th February and joined over a 1000 children from other schools to form the Peace Proms Choir. They were accompanied by a real symphony orchestra, professional singers, dancers and musicians. It was a goose bump moment for the children and teachers and we are just so proud of how well they represented the school. It was a once in a lifetime experience for the children and we intend to make it an annual event here at St Fergal’s.
We had great fun last week doing our annual Art For All Day. Every class in the whole school participated and by the end of the day the teachers were worn out and the children were covered in paint, clay, glue, wool and any other amount of art materials but each child had at least three pieces of Christmas themed artwork to show for it. It is always a highlight in the St Fergal’s School Calendar each year and it gets us all in the Christmas mood! Here are some pictures from the day.
We had a fabulous day on Monday last for our annual Sports day. This has been the first time we did the real thing because of Covid in a long time! Finally it has happened. Well done to all of our helpers , supporters and children for making this day so much fun,. The energy from the children was infectious. Please see photos below for a snippet of what took place,
Congratulations to all of the children who participated in the meal planner competition for ‘Be well Month’.
